On January 16, 2017 at 7:20 a.m., Hampton Township officers responded to Route 8 for a four vehicle accident. The accident occurred when the operator of one vehicle that was traveling northbound attempted to pass another vehicle, lost control, crossed over the center line and struck the front bumper of the second involved vehicle. The vehicle then continued to lose control and crossed over into the northbound passing lane of Route 8, and struck the rear tire of a semi-truck. The vehicle then crossed over into the curb lane of southbound Route 8 and struck the front driver's side fender of a third involved vehicle, and finally crashed into a utility pole and came to rest blocking the southbound curb lane. There were no injuries reported at the time of the crash, but one vehicle had to be towed.
