On January 23, 2017 at 4:00 p.m., local business owner, who operates a business on Route 8, filed a report with the Hampton Township Police regarding an attempted phone scam. The business owner stated that an individual, who claimed to be from Duquesne Light Co., tried to obtain money fraudulently. The business owner stated that the individual called three times, stating that the business had an outstanding bill that needed paid or their services would be shut off. The business owner realized that it was a common phone scam and disconnected the phone call, but stated that the individual was very convincing and wanted the police to be aware of the incident.
