On June 29, 2018 at 5:45 p.m., Hampton Township Police were dispatched to a business on Route 8 for a fight. It was reported that a customer had also fled from the establishment without paying their bill. A description of the vehicle was provided to responding officers as well as a partial license plate number. One of the responding officers intercepted the vehicle on Route 8, near Duncan Avenue. Upon making contact with the operator, the officer asked where they had been prior to the traffic stop. The operator advised that they had been golfing, but when asked, were unable to provide the officer the name of the golf course. The operator was then asked to step from the vehicle and was detained by officers. The operator had the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from their person. The operator was asked to submit to a preliminary breath test and agreed to do so, however, was unable to perform the breath test. The operator was then unable to perform field sobriety tests as had been explained and demonstrated and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. The operator was found to be the same actor who left the establishment without paying their bill.
