On August 19, 2018 at 4:27 a.m., Hampton Township Police were dispatched to Route 8, near Old Route 8, for a single vehicle accident. Upon the officer's arrival, they observed a a vehicle that was flipped onto it's roof and resting on the bed of an unoccupied parked truck in a parking lot. There was also a large black utility pole laying in the roadway, along with a street sign. The driver had already climbed out of the vehicle and denied injury. Shaler EMS responded to the scene to evaluate the operator due to the nature of the crash. The operator stated that deer ran out in front of her vehicle, and when she swerved to miss them, she struck the curb, causing her to lose control of the vehicle which then struck the utility pole and then overturned. The responding officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the operator's person while speaking to her on scene. After being medically cleared, the operator was asked to submit to field sobriety tests, which were explained and demonstrated to her. After attempting the tests, the operator was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.
