On April 4, 2020 at 1:31 p.m., a resident from West Hardies Road contacted Hampton Township Police to report two different phone scam attempts. The resident told officers that they had been receiving phone calls and text messages from three different phone numbers. The unknown actor(s) instructed the resident to purchase $2,500.00 in Apple gift cards and to send them photographs of the card numbers and receipt. In turn, they stated that they would send the resident a check for $250,000.00. The resident knew that this was a scam and did not do the task in which she was instructed to do by the unknown actor(s).
The resident also stated that she began receiving texts from an individual that claimed to be from the FBI. They claimed that they had a warrant for her arrest and sent a picture of the resident’s house. The resident also knew that this was a scam and wanted to report the suspicious activity to police.
