[ARCHIVED] Fraud

On August 21, 2020 at 12:52 p.m., Hampton Township Police received a fraud report from a resident on Meadowridge Lane. The resident advised that they received a phone call from an individual claiming to be with Amazon. The individual told them that they were a "Security Representative" and that there had been an issue with their account being charged for $399.00. The individual claimed that they required the resident to complete a "refund application" to get the money credited back. The individual then was able to gain access to the resident’s computer and a large sum of money appeared in the resident’s bank account. The individual claiming to be from Amazon advised that they accidentally deposited too much money and requested that the proper balance be paid back in the form of Amazon gift cards. The resident then discovered that the entire incident was a scam.
