On October 23, 2020 at 10:45 a.m., a resident from McNeal Road contacted Hampton Township Police to report a phone scam. The resident reported that a male contacted them by phone and claimed to be from the Social Security Department and stated that the resident was under investigation in the state of Texas. The male gave her a badge number and case number but requested the resident's social security number. The resident did provide the number, and once they began asking the male questions, the individual hung up the phone. The resident filed a police report and also took steps by contacting banking and the Social Security Department entities, as their number was possibly compromised as a result of the phone scam.
Residents are encouraged to refrain from providing sensitive, personal information over the phone as these types of scams are very common.
