On December 1, 2020 at 6:20 p.m., Hampton Township Police took a report of a phone scam. The reporting party stated that they received a phone call from someone claiming to be their son. The caller advised that they had been arrested for DUI and needed $5,000.00 to pay for an attorney. The caller then provided a phone number for the attorney. Upon calling the number, the supposed attorney requested the funds be paid in virtual currency. It eventually became apparent that this was a common phone scam.
