[ARCHIVED] Fraud

On April 3, 2021 at 4:01 p.m., a resident from Herron Road contacted Hampton Township Police to report an attempted scam. The resident reported that they received a phone call from an individual claiming to be "David Tyler" from Publisher's Clearing House. "David" told them that they won a white Mercedes vehicle and $5,000.00 per week for life. The resident advised "David" that they had never signed up for Publisher's Clearing House and they told the resident that Verizon had automatically signed her up for it. "David" instructed the resident that they would have to respond to a local "certified store", such as Walmart, to start the process to collect the winnings. The resident was aware that this is a common phone scam and did not provide any sensitive information and terminated the phone call. The resident wanted to report the suspicious call to make others aware of this type of common scam.
