Martha J. Hunkele was a councilmember from 2000 through 2012, and most recently in 2020. From 2013 to 2019, Martha was a member of the Hampton Community Association where she continued her long-term service to the residents of Hampton Township. During her service with the HCA, Martha was instrumental in the planning, funding and construction of the Hampton Community Park Playground.
At their Wednesday evening, May 26, 2021 meeting, Hampton Township Council approved a Proclamation thanking and commending Martha J. Hunkele for her years of distinguished dedication and honorable public service to the Township of Hampton. Furthermore, with the Proclamation, Council authorized the renaming of the Hampton Community Park Playground to the Martha J. Hunkele Community Playground.
Mrs. Hunkele was present at the meeting, along with her entire immediate family, to accept this honor.
