On October 17, 2017 at 12:40 a.m., a Hampton Township Officer observed a vehicle sitting at a traffic light on Oxford Blvd. waiting to enter Route 8. The vehicle in question was waiting in the oncoming lane of travel. The officer turned their patrol vehicle around in a nearby parking lot as the vehicle entered Route 8. The officer then followed the vehicle north on Route 8 and observed it swerving out of it's lane of travel multiple times. The vehicle also almost struck a curb. The officer then initiated a traffic stop on Route 8. Upon approaching the driver's side window, the officer could immediately detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. The driver showed visible signs of impairment and was unable to answer basic questions. The operator was asked to perform field sobriety tests, and was unable to complete the tests as had been explained and demonstrated. The operator was subsequently placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.
