On November 1, 2017 at 1:17 a.m., a Hampton Township officer observed a vehicle enter Route 8 and accelerate at a fast rate of speed. The vehicle was observed to be traveling at speeds in excess of 70 mph and changed lanes without signaling. A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle on Route 8, and upon making contact with the operator, the officer detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The officer also detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver's breath while speaking with them. The operator was found to be in possession of drugs and paraphernalia. The operator was asked to perform field sobriety tests, and was unable to complete them as had been explained and demonstrated. The driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.
