On May 12, 2018 at 8:04 p.m., Hampton Township Police responded to Richland Road for a single vehicle accident in which the sole occupant was said to be unconscious. Upon the officer's arrival, the vehicle was located off of the roadway, after it had driven over bushes, and sheared off a gas meter, creating a gas leak. People's Gas was notified to respond to the scene. Upon making contact with the operator and sole occupant, the first officer on scene observed the operator attempting to open a half empty bottle of whiskey that was within the vehicle. The operator showed visible signs of impairment and was subsequently placed under arrest for DUI. The operator was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
