On August 13, 2018 at 6:23 a.m., Hampton Township Police responded to Mount Royal Boulevard for a report of wires down blocking the roadway. As officers arrived on scene, Shaler Township PD were dispatched to a nearby location to speak with an individual who stated that they had just struck a telephone pole. The two reports were found to be linked when the operator revealed the location in which he had crashed his vehicle. The operator stated that he must have fallen asleep while driving, which resulted in a collision with a utility pole. The collision caused the utility pole to fall into the roadway. The vehicle was able to be driven from the scene. Duquesne Light Co. responded to the scene to remove the fallen pole from the roadway.
