On 05/24/2022 at 4:10 p.m. Hampton Township Police received a phone call request in regard to a phone scam. The resident advised that she received a phone call from an unknown number and spoke to a male who identified himself as Officer Martin Reed with the "US Customs and Border Patrol." The resident stated that he had an accent, and was sometimes difficult to understand. She stated that he told her his "badge number" and that the phone call was in regard to a particular case number, which involved her information being used by a male named "Mr.Mendez". He told her that it involved a drug smuggling ring, and that she was a victim of possible identity theft. He gave her three addresses and asked if she knew any of them, including two in Texas and the third was her home address. He then told her that she needed to fill out a document to further verify to what extent her information was being used illegally. The resident told him that she would not be comfortable providing him with any sensitive information at which point he hung up the phone. She stated that she knew it was a scam and wanted to report the incident to our agency in the event that we were not yet familiar with this scam.
