[ARCHIVED] Working America conducting door-to-door organizing drive in Hampton Township

The Police Department would like to inform the residents of Hampton that Working America will be conducting a door-to-door organizing drive starting on July 8, 2024, and continuing until at least November 6th, 2024.

Working America’s canvassers may at times display picture identification cards and wear red safety vests that display their affiliation with Working America. The purpose of their organizing drive is to educate working people about issues that affect them and sign up new members. Working America does not sell any kind of products.

Their canvassing typically operates in the late afternoon and evening, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Courts have recognized the right of canvassers to canvass during these hours, notwithstanding any local or state curfews.

Because Working America is engaged in constitutionally protected political speech in its canvassing operation, it is not required to obtain a permit prior to engaging in this activity.

Their right to engage in this activity is protected under the law.
